During the 1980s, John served as Chief Operating Officer and Vice Chairman of McCaw Cellular, which became the largest wireless operator in the US.

John is passionate about working with entrepreneurs to build successful companies, which he has been doing for a decade. As an investor, John has managed a variety of deals and investment processes, leading to investments in several companies in the Industry 4.0, agriculture, pharma, and retail technology spaces.

Prior to investing, John led a sister firm that offered strategic advisory services to venture-backed technology companies. As a Partner there, he worked with Founders, CEOs, and the Board by advising on M&A, capital raising, strategic partnerships, and growth initiatives for a suite of Seed, Series A, and Series B companies.

John has spent time in energy and industrials investment banking, project finance, and corporate advisory for Fortune 500 companies at Taylor-DeJongh and the Lafayette Group in Washington, D.C. In the energy sector, he helped advise on transactions valued in the multiple billions, including sell-side and project finance engagements spanning the Oil & Gas and Power value chains across the globe. In industrials, he conducted strategy work and consulted on a planned multi-billion-dollar M&A of a Fortune 500 chemicals player by a Middle Eastern-based corporate. He managed teams of analysts and participated in discussions of acquisitions and financing strategies, as well as deal structure.

A venture capitalist since 2006, John has been an early investor in over a dozen billion dollar plus companies, including: Affirmed Networks, AppDynamics, Arctic Wolf Networks, Carta, Harness, Liftoff.io, Mulesoft, Nicira, Nimble Storage, Sourcegraph, and DataStax. Inspired by successful entrepreneurs, John arrived in Silicon Valley in 2002 and worked in product management before completing his MBA at Stanford. As a principal at Menlo Ventures, Johnny invests in biotech and life science companies with a focus on novel therapeutics and new technologies for improving medical outcomes. While completing his Ph.D., Johnny helped develop gene editing technologies that were licensed by companies such as Editas Medicine (NASDAQ: EDIT) and Beam Therapeutics (NASDAQ: BEAM). Jon Bradford is a Co-founder & Managing Partner of Dynamo Ventures. Prior to Dynamo, Jon has a varied career as both an entrepreneur and investor. Jonathan Perl joined Boulder Ventures in 2002 and has over 24 years of venture capital experience focused exclusively on early-stage information technology companies.

Mr. Perl joined Intersouth Partners in 1997 as a member of the third class of Kaufman Fellows and in 1999 became a Partner. Jorge has more than 20 years of experience in leading, building, operating, and investing in life sciences and healthcare, with a broad range of operational roles in early-stage and commercial companies. Prior to joining a16z, Jorge served as Chief Strategy Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Product Officer for Syros (NASDAQ: SYRS), which is advancing small molecules to control the expression of genes. Jorge was also co-founder and CEO of Knome, a human genome interpretation company acquired by Tute Genomics in 2015.

Jory Bell is a General Partner at Playground Global, having joined the firm as Vice President in 2015. Jory grew up in Rochester, N.Y., and went on to attend MIT where he earned three undergraduate degrees in architecture, literature, and earth atmosphere & planetary studies. After graduation, Jory worked as a researcher as part of the joint MIT/ Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute climate change program where he designed, built, and deployed autonomous deep-sea robotics. Upon joining Playground, Jory discovered his passion for working with brilliant technical founders using science and technology to build massive companies to address large-scale societal needs. Jos is an entrepreneur in the information technology sector since 1985. Since then Jos (co)founded and managed several companies and brought them towards a successful exit. Before founding Konvoy, Josh built a career in banking as a Product Analyst for BlackRock and then as a Sales and Trading professional at Morgan Stanley. To date, Konvoy has invested in 17 companies from its $10.8M Fund I.

Josh has written several papers on the topic of industry best practices in product development including ones in the Process Industry, Automotive, Industrial Products, and High Tech. He has spoken at several software industry conferences on the topics of product development strategy and best practices and supply chain optimization. 

Josh has been in CPG for over two decades having worked with brands from $1 million in revenue all the way up to $1 billion. Prior to Ridgeline, he was an Operating Partner at an early stage VC fund working with several emerging natural food brands to rapidly accelerate growth and scale operations.

Prior to SBG, Josh worked in a variety of marketing leadership roles across PepsiCo (Gatorade, Tropicana, Quaker Oats), WhiteWave Foods (Silk and Horizon Organic) and more recently New Belgium Brewing, where he was the VP of Marketing.

Josh has also co-founded two start-ups and has a passion for entrepreneurship.

Josh has a B.S. in Business Management from the University of Utah as well as an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management focused on Entrepreneurship and Marketing.

My professional passion is putting technology and capital to work for the greater good. I have been active in the innovation space since the 1980s, as a member, founder, mentor, and advisor to a host of (mostly) technology-driven startups. I created and teach a course for Tufts University called Innovative Social Enterprises, which has consistently been rated "most impactful" since its inception. It is also now one of the core courses for a minor in Social Impact and a concentration in Social Entrepreneurship.
