Michael Staton is a Venture Partner at Learn Capital, where he has helped lead investments into Coursera, Minerva, and Brilliant. He previously founded and was CEO of Uversity, the pioneer of social enrollment management technology in higher education. For Uversity, he secured the first venture investment from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s U.S. programs into a private company.

Mr. Steed provides management oversight of the firm’s operations and investments and is responsible for the strategic direction of Paladin’s current and future activities. Prior to forming Paladin Capital, Mr. Steed served as Senior Vice President of Investments of a major financial services company based in Washington, DC, and served as President of its SEC registered investment advisory firm. From 1981 to 1985, Mr. Steed served as Special Counsel to the Chairman and as the National Director of the Democratic Party of the United States of America (DNC).

Michael was previously the CISO at Zscaler, a company that has pioneered the Security-as-a-Service space. As a member of the founding team, he spent a decade building Zscaler’s research team, driving the security model and evangelizing the vision. Prior to Zscaler, Michael helped build SPI Dynamics (acquired by HP) and iDEFENSE (acquired by VeriSign). Following Zscaler’s successful IPO in March 2018, Michael chose to pursue his passion for angel investing on a full time basis by launching StoneMill Ventures. He seeks out passionate entrepreneurs ready to disrupt key components of the security ecosystem. Michael is an active investor who looks for founders desiring mentorship alongside financial capital.

Michael is a partner at Craft on the investment team. Prior to Craft, he was an investor at Crosscut, a seed focused venture fund. Michael also managed Uber's business in Southern California and launched vehicle financing. He also helped start L., a B2C ecommerce company acquired by Procter & Gamble. Previously, he worked at Bank of America Merrill Lynch's tech investment banking group and began his career at PwC.

Over ten years ago, Michal identified that it is not sufficient for a startup to have only a strong, innovative core technology, but in order to realize success in leading markets, it is crucial to have a deep understanding of commercial integration into healthcare systems. With this principle in mind, she cofounded Triventures and became the first woman to found and manage a venture capital fund in Israel.

Mikal Thomsen is a Founding Partner & serves as Managing Director at Trilogy Equity Partners. He spent more than 20 years in the wireless industry. He joined McCaw Communications in 1983 as one of its first employees in the cellular division and remained with the company in both domestic and international operations for nearly a decade. In 1992, he co-founded Pacific Northwest Cellular, where he served as Managing Director. After a series of acquisitions and mergers, he became the Chief Operating Officer of Western Wireless and its subsidiary, VoiceStream. When VoiceStream was spun off as a separate company, he became President of Western Wireless. He served in that capacity until Western was sold to Alltel in 2005.

She was also the co-founder of an MIT startup working on unsupervised event detection, which later pivoted and became Infervision, an AI precision healthcare platform backed by Sequoia China. Millie is on the advisory board of MIT CSAIL (Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab). She holds a Master of Finance degree from MIT and B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Toronto.

I bring my startup operating experience to venture investing and fund management. I co-founded the venture firm First Row Partners and I am a Venture Partner at 2048 Ventures. Previously, I held leader roles as a angel and fund manager within Grubstakes and the Seattle Angel Conference. Mourad is an investment lead for the firm’s Cyber Fund, which focuses on investing in early stage companies in the US and Europe with solutions for cyber security and digital resilience.  Mourad is currently actively involved in several of Paladin’s investments including Expel, RiskSense, Secure Code Warrior, Ursa, RiskLens, and previously worked with Unitrends (acquired by Insight Venture Partners).  Prior to joining Paladin in 2009, Mourad was VP of Finance and a corporate officer at a Nasdaq-listed leading industrial infrastructure company, where he led the build-out of the company’s financial planning and risk management functions during a period of rapid growth in operations and nearly tenfold increase in revenue to over $700 million. He also played a key role in structuring and negotiating over $500 million of equity and debt financing working with major institutional investors and a global lender syndicate.

Natalie started his career as a Sales Engineer at Oracle and eventually found her way to a small analytics startup in stealth mode at the time—Interana. Mark LaRosa hired me as his first Solutions Architect. Eventually, Natalie left Interana as Director of Product to join the Core Infrastructure team at Google. She wanted to see behind the curtain on the planetary scale systems running some of the most complex infrastructure in the world—Search and Ads. There, she helped build and scale products for internal developers at Google and later Google Cloud. Natalie is drawn to founders who have taken unconventional paths—or “career swerves" since seeing the same problem in very different contexts is one of the most valuable lessons she has learned and values in others.
