Charles Birnbaum is a partner in Bessemer’s New York office, where he invests in early-stage and promising companies in the U.S. and Europe. He has a strong interest in fintech infrastructure, embedded financial services, consumer-facing products, the powerful emergence of DeFi, and the consumer-facing companies and infrastructure players that will serve as a bridge between DeFi and TradFi. Before joining Bessemer in 2013, Charles was one of the earliest team members at Foursquare, the location-based mobile application and social network, where he helped to bring forth the company’s first merchant-facing tools.

Mike caught the technology bug at an early age. He started playing video games at age 4, taught himself programming at 13, and founded his first startup at 19. While studying for the bar exam, he had the idea for BarMax, a $1000 iPhone app for exam preparation, which is currently the top rated bar exam course in the app store.  Mike went on to co-found Stitcher, an early podcasting company backed by Benchmark where he led partnerships with The Wall Street Journal, NPR, The Washington Post, TechCrunch, and many others. Mike was also early at TrialPay, a payments company that was acquired by Visa, where he led the partnership with Facebook that doubled the company’s revenue. Mike’s enthusiasm for the early stage brought him to Yelp in 2010, where he was Vice President of Business Development and Corporate Development. In that role, Mike secured more than 200 partnerships with leading companies, including Apple, Microsoft, and Samsung, and he led Yelp’s acquisition of Eat24.

Paul joined forces with Rebecca Lynn and Gary Little as a founding member of Canvas Ventures in 2014, with the purpose of creating the type of boutique firm he would have liked to work with as an entrepreneur himself, one where every investment is meaningful and where he can spend his time working with his founders to scale their business. Rebecca’s very first entry into venture was leading an early-stage investment in Lending Club (LC), which turned into the largest US technology IPO of 2014 and the fourth largest US Internet IPO since 2001, behind Facebook, Twitter, and Google. Miguel is a former banker and fintech podcast host. He hosts the Fintech Leaders Podcast and previously co-hosted the Wharton Fintech Podcast, which he grew 13x to a monthly audience of 130k. In a prior life, he was a banker for Citi and MUFG in their structured finance and infrastructure teams. Josh Coyne joined Kleiner Perkins in 2017 and focuses on investments in enterprise software and financial services. Prior to joining Kleiner Perkins, Josh was at Qatalyst Partners, where he helped advise on multi-billion dollar acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, and financings across a variety of technology sectors. Originally from Cleveland, Josh graduated summa cum laude from Boston College with a degree in Computer Science and Finance. Co-founder and former CEO of Trulia, one of the internet’s most successful marketplaces. He led the company from inception to one of the largest and fastest-growing real estate brands in the U.S. with more than 50 million monthly unique users and a merger with Zillow in 2015 that valued Trulia at $3.5 billion. Prior to starting Trulia, Pete was part of the founding team of lastminute.com, a leading European online travel site that was acquired in 2005 by Travelocity/Sabre Holdings for over $1 billion. These experiences gave Pete a rarely acquired understanding of what it takes to scale a company from a great idea to a $1 billion+ exit, all from a Founder’s perspective.

Nigel Morris is the co-founder and managing partner of QED Investors, a fintech venture capital platform focused on disruptive, high-growth financial services companies. Prior to QED, Nigel co-founded Capital One Financial Services in 1994. Under Nigel’s leadership as President and Chief Operating Officer, Capital One pioneered an information-based strategy that transformed the consumer lending industry.

Patagon became Latin America’s first comprehensive Internet based financial services portal and dealer. The company expanded its online services to the United States and the rest of South America and was later acquired by the Spanish bank Banco Santander (NYSE: STD) for US$ 750 million.

He started his career defending Visa from antitrust attack and went inhouse at Visa where he served as the catalyst for the company’s reorganization and public offering. Returning to private practice, he secured notable victories for eBay and PayPal in antitrust litigation challenging the acquisition of PayPal and integration of PayPal into the eBay marketplace, served as counsel of record for Bill Me Later in the case challenging the white label origination model, and obtained the first ever no-action letter from the CFPB on behalf of Upstart. Immediately prior to joining Nyca, he was the co-chair of the FinTech and chair of the Competition practices at Paul Hastings, where he remains a policy advisor. Marc focuses on global early-stage fintech investing. His investment interests include infrastructure, banking and wealth management technology, and businesses operating at the intersection of fintech and other categories (primarily healthcare and sustainability). I've had a pretty varied career as a founder, investor, product manager, and journalist, but nearly all of that has been in the fintech and crypto ecosystems. I'm currently the managing general partner of Vol. 1 Ventures, a pre-seed fund focused on fintech and crypto startups. Before starting Vol. 1 Ventures, I spent a few years building Fintech Today—a content and community company for fintech and crypto operators and founders. While investing is my full time job, I'm a builder at heart—I love working on complex financial problems that can be solved by technology. I first got into fintech after spending a little time in mortgage backed securities after college.
