My background is in product management so I love to jam and brainstorm, but what underpins how I work with founders is authentic human connection, empathy, and trust. I believe that a big part of my role as a VC is to help remove barriers, open doors, and be a trusted partner throughout this incredible journey. Before joining LJV, I was at Coatue, where I helped build the strategy for our first early stage fund and get it off the ground. I’m also the co-founder of Lej, a clothing brand, as well as a part-time DJ.

Monique Woodard is the Founding Partner and Managing Director of Cake Ventures where she invests in areas where she sees the future of technology being driven by major demographic trends. Monique is a seasoned venture capitalist who has invested in global startup ecosystems in the U.S. and internationally since 2016. Prior to founding Cake Ventures, Monique was a Venture Partner at 500 Startups where she invested in early stage companies in the U.S. and Africa. Following her time at 500 Startups, Monique became a Venture Scout at Lightspeed Venture Partners and a trusted advisor to foundations and venture capital firms like SoftBank where she advised on the Vision Fund’s Emerge program. Before moving to the investor side of the table, Monique spent 15+ years in the startup industry as a founder and operator.

Ryan started his professional career as a product manager in the gaming industry. His fascination with technology and behavioral psychology led him to help write Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products. Inspired by his curiosity and a desire to support early stage makers and founders, he founded Product Hunt in 2013. The company raised capital from Y Combinator, Andreessen Horowitz, and others before joining AngelList. Shortly after the acquisition, he started Weekend Fund.

Enterprise focused early-stage VC with $100k-$500k checks via CapitalX.vc. Also invest in later stage via SPVs for $250k $2m or more. Since 2011, I’ve invested in over 100 startups with High Hit Rate including 12 x Unicorns. In addition, I've also invested in more than 10 VC funds. I know what it takes to build a high-impact company at different stages, as a long-time executive and operator, a former founder, and consultant at Accenture. Founders also love working with me for being an empathetic executive coach, cheerleader for the early team, and ambassador for their brand and community.

Before Homebrew, I led consumer product management at YouTube, starting when it was acquired by Google. I originally joined Google in 2003, managing product and sales efforts for AdSense, Google‘s contextual advertising business. My first job in Silicon Valley was as the founding product and marketing guy at Linden Lab. Before graduate school, I was a management consultant and also spent a year at Late Night with Conan O‘ Brien.

She runs a holding company of SMB’s below $10M EBITDA focused upon what she calls “boring businesses,” or service-based businesses. She is a former partner at private equity firm EEC, and built First Trust’s $1 billion+ AUM Latin America business. She held leadership positions at Goldman Sachs, State Street, and Vanguard. She started as a journalist where she won the JFK award and Howard Buffett Foundation. She was listed as a 25 Most Innovative Leader in Cannabis, and a Top Female Investor by Forbes. She has an M.B.A. from Georgetown University, a master’s from ESADE and Fundação Getúlio Vargas, and a B.A. from Arizona State University.
